This document is a toolkit, not a rule book. We acknowledge that there is no one correct way to approach trauma-informed storytelling. Rather, we offer a starting point: a framework informed by the lived experiences of individuals on both sides of the camera.
At its most basic level, a trauma-informed approach comes down to visualizing, reporting, and sharing stories with an understanding of what trauma is, how trauma can affect individuals, and how secondary trauma, or in other words, how hearing about or witnessing a traumatic event, affects those of us who work alongside each participant.
